The Common App gained popularity as a college admission app that allows easy application submission to multiple colleges at once. It is a highly desirable application for students, as it offers a convenient way of keeping track of all their college applications and staying on top of them in one place.
However, if you are already done with your college application process, you may not need this app anymore. This guide will take you through the process and inform you how to delete the Common App account.
How to Delete a Common App Account
There may be various reasons why you don’t need a Common App account anymore. You may have decided to get rid of the app or may not feel a need for it since you have already applied to all the colleges of your choice.
In such cases, follow these steps to delete your Common App account:
Log in to the Common App account you wish to delete using your credentials.
Go to the left side corner of the window and click on “My Colleges.”
Click the “Remove This College” button under all the colleges in your list. A prompt will appear whenever you press this button; press “Confirm” to delete each college from your list.
Click on the “Yes” button as you continue removing all the colleges from your list. You may have to repeat this step several times if you have a number of colleges on your list, but it will ensure that none of the schools contact you.
Allow your empty Common App account to sit unused until the application season ends, which lasts from autumn to the end of spring. Your Common Application Account will automatically be deleted during the summer.
It is important to note that deleting your Common Application app is permanent and cannot be undone. Deletion will also clear all your data from the app, including your personal identification information and responses to application questions.
However, it does not remove the submitted applications and data stored by other organisations or the colleges you applied to. Despite that, it is advisable to ensure that each college you applied to has received your college application and that all the necessary recommender forms are completed before deleting your Common Application app.
Keep in mind that your college may still require the following information before marking your college application as complete:
- Teacher evaluations
- Writing supplement
- Counsellor recommendation
- High school transcripts
- Other recommender forms
Other colleges may also require a mid-year and a final-year report, which may not be ready until after you graduate high school.
Deleting a Common App account is child’s play: all you need to do is clear your potential college list and let the account sit idle until application season is over.
However, if you used the Common App to submit your college applications, make sure to follow up with each of them before deleting your account to prevent any undesirable circumstances.
